HEAVY RAIN IN UTTARAKHAND CAUSES EXTENSIVE DAMAGE

Kedarnath Yatra Stopped Due to Heavy Rains

The Kedarnath Yatra has been stopped at Sonprayag and Gaurikund due to continuous heavy rains. The district administration has stopped the passengers at these places due to continuous bad weather and safety concerns.


Four state roads and 10 link roads are closed due to debris caused by the rains. The Mandakini and Alaknanda rivers are in spate due to the heavy rains.


The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for July 12 for Uttarakhand and adjoining areas of Western Uttar Pradesh. This means that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in these areas.


Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that the state administration is on vigilance due to IMD's heavy rainfall alert. He has said that all district administration officials and those in the disaster management department are on alert and ready to face any situation.


On Tuesday, four persons passed away and 10 people were wounded due to collapsing of fragments of rock on Gangotri National Highway near Gangnani in Uttarakhand.


The heavy rains have caused widespread damage in Uttarakhand. The state government has urged people to stay safe and avoid unnecessary travel.
