In Assam, over 500 families live on railway lines while villages are flooded

Over 500 households from two villages in Assam’s Jamunamukh district set up temporary shelters on railway tracks after being flooded by rainfall. The railroads were the only high land in the vicinity that escaped the flood floods

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, the impacted population was 7,17,500 and the district was 27. (ASDMA). In total, 86,772 individuals have sought refuge in 343 relief camps, with another 411 aid distribution centres open.



According to the ASDMA bulletin, the NDRF, SDRF, and volunteers assisted in the evacuation of 21,884 stranded individuals. According to the report, 269 people were rescued from the Dima Hasao district in the last two days with the support of the Indian Air Force and transported to Silchar.



In Dima Hasao, a team of ISRO specialists is already doing quick damage assessments utilising drones and satellite data to determine post-disaster needs. The state government has allocated an additional Rs 2 crore to each of the districts of Cachar and Dima Hasao for the distribution of free relief to the afflicted people.



The advisory noted that steps are being conducted to repair broken communication links and that the overall situation is being closely monitored. In collaboration with the district administration of Hojai, the North-eastern Frontier Railway (NFR) recently launched a special train for the relief and rescue of flood-affected people in the district. According to an NFR release on Friday, the train travelled from Hojai to Jamunamukh, delivering food and basic supplies for flood-affected residents who had taken shelter in makeshift tents alongside railway tracks in the Hojai-Jamunamukh sector.
