The state health department established a high-level investigation into the incident.

“A total of four children have been infected with HIV, one of whom has died. After conducting a high-level inquiry, we will collect all of the facts and take action against the perpetrators “Dr RK Dhakate, Assistant Deputy Director of the Health Department, stated.

He also stated that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has begun a preliminary investigation into the issue.

“In this case, the (FDA) has also launched a preliminary investigation.” Thalassemia patients’ blood will be tested using a Nucleic Acid Test (NAT).

Patients were given tainted blood, according to the doctor who was treating them.

“During therapy, they were tested and discovered to be HIV positive. They were allegedly infected with HIV and Hepatitis B after receiving contaminated blood from the blood bank. A NAT blood test is required for children with Thalassemia, but due to a lack of this facility in the blood bank, the youngsters acquired HIV infected “Dr. Vicky Rughwani stated.

Five Thalassemic children had previously been infected with Hepatitis C, while two children had been infected with Hepatitis B.

More information is awaited.
