"Indrani Mukerjea has been granted bail. 6.5 years is far too lengthy "The Supreme Court issued its decision today.

Indrani Mukerjea is on trial for the 2012 murder of Sheena Bora, a thrilling case that enthralled the nation with twists and turns fit for a movie.

Sheena Bora, her daughter from her previous marriage, was murdered in 2015 with the help of her driver Shyamvar Rai and a former spouse, Sanjeev Khanna.

Indrani was reportedly enraged by her daughter's friendship with Rahul Mukerjea, her husband Peter Mukerjea's son from a previous marriage, according toinvestigators.

Indrani Mukerjea, who is imprisoned atMumbai's Byculla women's prison, wasrepresented by senior counsel Mukul Rohatgi.

A special CBI court has already denied her bail on several occasions.

She was entitled to bail, according to the Supreme Court, because she had "previously spent a considerable time" in prison.

The Supreme Court stated, "The charge brought against the petitioner is that she premeditated the murder in light ofher daughter's live-in relationship with Rahul Mukerjea, who was the son of Peter Mukerjea and his prior wife."

"We are not making any judgments on the case's merits.

Even if the prosecution provides 50% of the witnesses, the trial will take a long time to complete.

She will be released on bail if the trial court rules in her favour.

The same conditions that were placed on Peter Mukerjea would be placed on her as well "Justices BR Gavai and AS Bopanna were also on the bench.

Peter Mukerjea was given bail in 2020 despite being detained months after Indrani on suspicion of assisting her.

It was a case of circumstantial evidence, according to the judges.

After the murder, Sheena Bora went missing for three years.

Sheena, whom Indrani had always believed was her sister, had migrated to the United States, she told friends.

After Indrani Mukerjea's driver, who was arrested in a separate case, provideda statement to the police, her half-burned body was dug up from a jungle near Mumbai.

He said that Sheena Bora was strangled in a car by her mother.

In the trial, which began in 2017, almost 60 witnesses have given their testimony.

Indrani and Peter Mukerjea divorced in 2019 while still in prison, ending their 17-year relationship.

Indrani Mukerjea alleged earlier this year that Sheena Bora was alive and had been seen by a fellow prisoner in Srinagar.

The CBI dismissed that assertion as a "figment of her imagination" and virtually implausible.

The CBI recently informed a Mumbai special court that its probe into the 2012 murder was complete
