As the world is still battling with the Covid-19 pandemic, another threat is looming over the world in the form of the Monkeypox virus. The World Health Organization (WHO) has predicted that this newly found virus can once again trigger pandemic-like satiation across the globe.

According to the UN health agency, 80 cases of monkeypox have been confirmed in 11 countries so far. "There are about 80 confirmed cases so far, and 50 pending investigations. More cases are likely to be reported as surveillance expands," informs the UN health agency.

While informing about the monkeypox, the WHO said “it is endemic in some animal populations in several countries, leading to occasional outbreaks among local people and travelers.”

So far, the monkeypox outbreak is seen in the US, UK, Spain, Portugal, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, France, Belgium, Sweden, Spain, and Australia.

Amid the rising tension over the new virus, the Indian government has directed National Centre for Disease Control and the ICMR to buckle up and be vigilant. “Keep a close watch on Monkeypox situation abroad; isolate sick passengers from affected countries and send their samples to NIV Pune for investigation", the Union Health Ministry said.
