The National Commission for Women has issued notice to the congress leader Udit Raj over his questionable remarks on President Murmu calling them “highly objectionable”.

In a recent tweet, the congress spokesperson commented “No country should get a president like Draupadi Murmu. This is the height of sycophancy. She says 70 per cent of people eat Gujarat's salt. Spend your life eating salt, then you will know the truth,". This came as a response to President Murmur’s statement that Gujarat manufactures 76 per cent of salt produced in the country. "It can be said that all countrymen eat Gujarat's salt," she had said.

The leader’s tweet led to a severe backlash from several BJP spokespersons demanding an apology from Raj. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said, “It is a matter of surprise and pain that Congress leaders are regularly using such undignified expressions. This exposes the party's anti-tribal mindset. The Congress should apologise”. Shehzad Poonawalla, another BJP spokesperson called the leader’s language unacceptable. “Does the Congress endorse this insult of Adivasi samaj?", he tweeted.

In the notice sent to Udit raj, NCW recognised his comments as extremely commendable and shameful. He has been asked to appear before the commission in person on the hearing scheduled on October 10th,2022.

Later the Congress politician issued an explanation on Twitter, claiming that his comment regarding President Murmu was his sole one and had "nothing to do with the Congress" in response to criticism from the BJP and other parties.
