PM Modi visits Nepal, will lay foundation stone of Buddhist Centre

On Monday after making a short trip to Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh, where Buddha attained Nirvana after his death, the PM is also slated to visit the Lumbini heritage site on auspicious Buddha Purnima Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all to visit Nepal on Monday/. This will be his first visit to the country after the 2019 elections. The visit will focus on strengthening the bilateral ties on the pillars of shared culture and civilizational heritage, connectivity, energy, and education.



During his visit, PM Modi will meet his counterpart, Nepal Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at Lumbini. Lumbini is the birthplace of Prince Gautam Buddha after his enlightenment at Bodh Gaya in India.



On Monday after making a short trip to Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh, where Buddha attained Nirvana after his death, the PM is also slated to visit the Lumbini heritage site on auspicious Buddha Purnima Day. PM Modi and Bahadur Deuba will also jointly inaugurate an India-funded Buddhist Centre at Lumbini. 

 


 In a statement before his visit, the PM said, “I also look forward to meeting Prime Minister Deuba again after our productive discussions during his visit to India last month. We will continue to build on our shared understanding to expand cooperation in multiple areas, including in hydropower, development, and connectivity.”
