PM Narendra Modi launches 5G in India; calls it a gift from telecom industry to 130 crore Indians

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi today launched 5G services in the country, moving into an era where mobile phones will have ultra-high internet, according to a statement by Prime Minister's Office.


PM Modi also inaugurated the sixth edition of India Mobile Congress. While addressing the audience, he said that 13o crore Indians are receiving a wonderful gift in the guise of 5G from the country's telecom industry. He regarded 5G as a knock on the doors of a new era in India, calling it the beginning of an infinite sky of opportunities. He congratulated every Indian on this development.


He also conveyed the message that India will not remain a mere consumer of technology anymore, but will play an active role in the implementation and development of that technology. He said that India will play a big role in the designing of future wireless technology, and manufacturing activities related to it.


Modi also pointed out how India was dependent on other countries for 2G, 3G and 4G technology, but has created a new history with 5G. The nation is setting a global standard for the first time in the telecom technology. 


He also focused on the need for holistic approach to Digital India and elaborated that we focused on the four pillars in four directions at once, which are the price of the device, digital connectivity, cost of data and most importantly the idea of 'digital first'.


PM said that usage of 5G technology will not be just about speedy internet access, but also has the potential to change lives.


He urged the leaders of the telecom industry association to visit colleges and schools in the country to unleash every aspect of this new technology. He also encouraged them to create an enabling system for MSMEs in order to prepare spare parts for electronic manufacturing. He called for a revolution in the country with the arrival of 5G technology.
