Prophet remark row: India slams Pakistan over its reaction

"We have noted statements and comments from Pakistan. The absurdity of a serial violator of minority rights commenting on the treatment of minorities in another nation is not lost on anyone

After Pakistan condemned the controversial remark on Prophet Mohammad, India in retaliation slammed Pakistan, saying the country respects all religions unlike Pak where 'fanatics are eulogized'.

"We have noted statements and comments from Pakistan. The absurdity of a serial violator of minority rights commenting on the treatment of minorities in another nation is not lost on anyone. The world has been witnessing the systemic persecution of minorities including Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, and Ahmadiyyas by Pakistan," Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said in a statement.

On Monday the Indian chargé d’affaires was summoned by Pakistan over the remarks made by the BJP leaders. Pakistan’s Foreign Office termed the comments “totally unacceptable”.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office told the Indian diplomat that it “deplores the belated and perfunctory disciplinary actions taken by the BJP government against the said officials, which cannot assuage the pain caused to the Muslims.”

Earlier, Pakistan Prime Ministerer Shehbaz Sharif had also targeted India over the remark made by Nupur Sharma.

"I condemn in strongest possible words hurtful comments of India's BJP leader about our beloved Prophet (PBUH)," Shehbaz had tweeted.
