Russia confirms capture of Eastern Ukraine’s Lyman town

The city of Lyman has been a target for the Russian forces because it is considered to be of pivotal importance as the town is a site of a major railway hub. The town lies between Severodonetsk and Kramatorsk. Lyman lies on the road that leads to the key cities that are under the control of Ukraine

Russia’s on Saturday confirmed that its military force has succeeded in capturing Eastern Ukraine’s Lyman town. 



The announcement of Lyman falling under Russian control was confirmed by Russia’s Ministry of defense. The statement released by the ministry says, "Following the joint actions of the units of the militia of the Donetsk People's Republic and the Russian armed forces, the town of Krasny Liman has been entirely liberated from Ukrainian nationalists."



The town of Krasny Lyman is located in the north of the eastern Donetsk region. The strategic town lies on the road to Sloviansk and Kramatorsk, the capital of the Ukrainian-controlled part of the region. Prior to the invasion, the town was populated by around 20,000 people.
