On Wednesday, The Enforcement Directorate issued an order summoning Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi over the National Herald case. The case was closed by the ED in 2015.

While responding to the news, Congress leader and senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi accused the BJP of misusing the investigating agencies to pressurize its political opponents.

"The BJP is using puppet agencies to intimidate political opponents. The National Herald case has a history that goes back to its independence days,” Abhishek Manu Singhvi said.

Singhvi also added that several opposition leaders including Mamata Banerjee, and Farooq Abdullah are being intimidated by the ED.

"All companies do improve balance sheet by turning loans into equities,” Singhvi added.

The Congress leader also informed that the National Herald case was closed by the ED in 2015 but the current government replaced the concerned officials to reopen the case.

"In 2015, the ED closed the National Herald case. But the govt didn't like it and it removed the ED officials concerned, brought in new officials, and reopened the case. This is to divert attention from inflation and other raging problems," Singhvi added.
