“Stop Raping Us’, topless woman protests against Russian invasion at Cannes Film Festival

A woman took off her top on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival to reveal a message painted on her body, “Stop Raping Us’ to protest against alleged rapes in Ukraine.

The protestor shouted and posed for the photographers before being removed from the spot by security guards. The ‘protest’ briefly disrupted the functioning of the event and the arrivals of some guests, including Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba, were interrupted.

Last month, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that investigations had reported "hundreds of cases of rape" in Ukrainian areas previously occupied by Russian troops. He also claimed that small children were also not spared from the sexual assaults.

On Tuesday, The Ukrainian president released a video, in which he appealed for aid for his country at the Cannes opening ceremony on Tuesday.

Russia's war in Ukraine has been in the spotlight at the Cannes festival. the event has secured a special slot for the screening of several films by Ukrainian filmmakers.
