One person was killed and six others were injured after a series of LPG cylinder explosions rocked a residential property in Chandigarh’s Burail area on Monday evening, triggering panic across the neighborhood. Police have registered an FIR and launched an investigation into the incident.
According to officials, multiple LPG cylinders exploded one after another inside the house, causing extensive damage to the structure and nearby buildings. The force of the blasts reduced much of the house to rubble, while adjoining properties reportedly suffered cracked walls and shattered windows.
Emergency teams from the Chandigarh Police, fire department and other rescue agencies rushed to the scene shortly after the explosions. Rescue workers pulled several people from the debris and shifted the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities confirmed that one person succumbed to injuries, while six others were hurt in the incident.
Local residents alleged that the premises may have been used for an illegal LPG cylinder refilling operation. Witnesses claimed that a large number of cylinders were stored inside the property, raising concerns about possible violations of safety regulations. Police are investigating whether illegal storage or handling of LPG cylinders contributed to the explosions.
Preliminary findings suggest that a gas leak could have triggered the first blast, which was followed by additional explosions in quick succession. However, officials have not yet confirmed the exact cause and are awaiting the results of a detailed forensic examination.
The incident caused widespread panic in Burail village, with residents rushing out of their homes after hearing the powerful explosions. Authorities cordoned off the area and began assessing the extent of the damage while ensuring there was no further risk from remaining cylinders or gas leaks.
The tragedy has once again highlighted concerns over LPG safety and the dangers associated with unauthorized storage and refilling of cylinders in densely populated residential areas. Investigators are expected to determine whether negligence or illegal activities played a role in the deadly incident.
