At least two people were killed and 11 others injured after a double-decker bus rammed into a stationary truck on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, police said.
The accident occurred in the early hours when the bus, carrying passengers, crashed into a truck that was reportedly parked along the expressway. The impact was severe, leaving the front portion of the bus badly damaged and several passengers trapped inside the vehicle.
Local residents and passersby quickly alerted authorities, following which police, highway patrol teams and emergency services rushed to the spot. Rescue operations were launched immediately, with teams working to pull out the injured from the wreckage. Ambulances shifted the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Officials confirmed that two people died on the spot, while 11 others sustained injuries. Some of the injured are said to be in critical condition, and they are being closely monitored by doctors.
Preliminary investigation suggests that poor visibility and possible driver fatigue may have contributed to the accident. Authorities are also examining whether the stationary truck had proper warning signs or reflectors, as their absence could have made it difficult for the bus driver to notice the vehicle in time.
Traffic on the expressway was briefly disrupted after the crash, with vehicles diverted to alternate routes until the damaged bus and truck were cleared from the road.
Police said a detailed probe is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.
