At least two people were killed and seven others injured after a bus carrying pilgrims from Punjab's Amritsar overturned near Kallar in Himachal Pradesh's Bilaspur district on Monday. The accident occurred on the Kiratpur–Nerchowk highway while the group was travelling to the renowned Naina Devi temple.
According to police, the bus reportedly lost control on a hilly stretch before overturning on the roadside. Local residents, police personnel and emergency responders rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations. The injured passengers were shifted to nearby hospitals, where several are undergoing treatment.
Officials said the victims were part of a pilgrimage group from Amritsar. The identities of the deceased are being verified, and the condition of some injured passengers is being closely monitored. District authorities have assured all possible medical assistance to the victims and their families.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Preliminary reports suggest that the driver may have lost control of the vehicle, though mechanical failure and road conditions are also being examined. Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution while travelling on the state's mountainous roads, especially during the monsoon season.
