A sudden and violent storm swept across Patna, Bihar, leaving behind a trail of destruction, claiming at least three lives and injuring five others. The incident occurred after strong winds accompanied by heavy rain and lightning lashed the city, uprooting trees, damaging infrastructure, and disrupting normal life across multiple areas.
According to district administration officials, the storm struck with intense gusts that reached extremely high speeds, causing widespread chaos within a short span of time. Several trees were uprooted across major roads, leading to traffic disruptions and blocking key routes. Falling branches and collapsing structures were reported from multiple neighbourhoods, adding to the damage.
Emergency response teams, including municipal workers and disaster management personnel, were immediately deployed to clear roads and restore essential services. Authorities confirmed that restoration work is being carried out on a priority basis, although full normalisation may take time due to the scale of damage.
The District Magistrate of Patna stated that officials from multiple departments, including electricity, forest, and public works, are actively working in the field to restore traffic movement and repair damaged infrastructure. He also confirmed the death toll and said that close monitoring of the situation is underway.
Reports indicate that the storm caused widespread power outages after trees fell on electricity lines and transformers in several parts of the city. Many areas experienced long hours without electricity, while repair teams struggled to restore supply amid continuing rain and debris.
Transportation was also severely affected. Several roads remained blocked for hours due to fallen trees and waterlogging. Public transport services were disrupted, leaving commuters stranded in different parts of the city. In some areas, vehicles were damaged after being crushed under fallen trees.
Railway and air services faced temporary disruption as well. Flight operations were impacted due to poor visibility and strong winds, while railway movement was briefly slowed after damage near station areas. Authorities later restored partial services after safety checks.
The India Meteorological Department has warned of continued unstable weather conditions in the region, with chances of more thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over the coming days. Residents have been advised to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay indoors during severe weather conditions.
As cleanup operations continue, the administration has assured compensation and assistance to the families of the deceased and injured, while teams work round the clock to bring the city back to normalcy.
