Ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik announced that around 300 companies of security forces have been deployed to ensure free, fair, and peaceful voting across the state.
Addressing the media, Patnaik said that extensive security arrangements have been put in place in coordination with the Election Commission of India. The deployment includes Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) along with state police personnel, covering both urban and rural constituencies.
She emphasised that special focus has been given to sensitive and vulnerable polling booths, where additional layers of security will be maintained. Area domination exercises, route marches, and regular patrolling are already underway to instill confidence among voters and deter any potential disturbances.
According to officials, all polling stations will be under strict surveillance, with measures such as CCTV monitoring, webcasting, and the presence of micro-observers in critical locations. Quick Response Teams (QRTs) and flying squads have also been deployed to respond swiftly to any complaints or incidents during the polling process.
The CEO further stated that adequate arrangements have been made for the safe transportation and storage of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). Strong rooms are being secured round-the-clock, with political party representatives allowed to monitor proceedings to ensure transparency.
In addition to security, the administration is also focusing on voter awareness and facilitation. Help desks, voter assistance booths, and accessibility measures for senior citizens and persons with disabilities are being strengthened.
Political campaigning in Tamil Nadu has intensified in recent days, with major parties stepping up their outreach efforts. Against this backdrop, the administration reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring that every voter can exercise their democratic right without fear.
With large-scale deployment and strict monitoring mechanisms in place, authorities expressed confidence that the elections will be conducted smoothly and peacefully across the state.
