At least four people were killed and three others injured after a speeding car crashed into a truck in Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki on Tuesday, police said.
According to officials, the accident occurred when the car, reportedly travelling at high speed, rammed into a truck on a highway in the district. The impact of the collision was so severe that the vehicle was badly mangled, trapping several occupants inside.
Local residents and police personnel rushed to the spot soon after the accident. Rescue teams worked to pull the victims from the wreckage and shift the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment. Four occupants were declared dead, while three others sustained injuries and are undergoing medical care.
Preliminary investigations suggest that overspeeding may have been a major factor behind the crash. However, authorities are examining all aspects of the incident, including road conditions and the movements of both vehicles before the collision.
Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination and informed the victims' families. Efforts are also underway to establish the identities of all those involved and determine the exact sequence of events leading to the accident.
Road accidents caused by speeding remain a major concern across Uttar Pradesh and other parts of the country. Officials have repeatedly urged motorists to follow traffic rules, maintain safe speeds and exercise caution while driving, particularly on highways.
The tragic accident once again highlights the dangers of reckless driving and the devastating consequences that high-speed collisions can have on passengers and other road users. Authorities said further investigation into the incident is underway.
