Delhi Police on Friday confirmed the arrest of all remaining absconding accused in the high-profile assault case involving a serving Indian Army Brigadier and his son in southwest Delhi, bringing a major breakthrough in the investigation.
According to police officials, four more accused were apprehended after a sustained search operation across multiple locations. With these arrests, the total number of accused in custody has risen to six.
The newly arrested individuals have been identified as Surjit Singh (36), Sunil Sharma (53), Ashish (32), all residents of Mehram Nagar in Delhi, and Satender (35), a resident of Bhiwani in Haryana. Earlier, two main accused—Satender alias Sonu, an aviation firm director, and Sanjay Sharma, a local eatery owner—had already been taken into custody.
The incident took place in the Vasant Enclave area of southwest Delhi earlier this month. According to investigators, the Brigadier and his son had objected to a group of men allegedly consuming alcohol inside a parked car near their residence. The confrontation quickly escalated into a violent altercation, during which the officer and his son were assaulted. The attackers also reportedly abused and threatened the officer’s family members.
Police said that after the initial argument, one of the main accused called his associates, who then arrived at the scene in a vehicle and joined the assault. Following the registration of the case, several accused went into hiding to evade arrest. However, coordinated raids and surveillance eventually led to their capture.
Authorities have also recovered the vehicle allegedly used in the crime and are examining further evidence, including CCTV footage and witness statements, to strengthen the case. Officials indicated that the accused will be produced before a court and further custodial interrogation may be sought.
The incident had triggered widespread outrage, especially given that the victim is a senior Army officer. The Delhi administration had earlier stepped in, assuring security to the officer’s family and directing swift action against those responsible.
Police officials reiterated that strict action will be taken against all involved and that such acts of violence, particularly against serving defence personnel, will not be tolerated. With all accused now in custody, the investigation is expected to move into its next phase, focusing on prosecution and ensuring justice for the victims.
