Fresh political tension has surfaced in West Bengal after Trinamool Congress leader Ratna Debnath alleged that a bomb blast incident took place in Panihati following the recent election results. She claimed that the incident occurred in Ward No. 14, raising concerns over post-poll violence in the area.
Speaking to reporters, Debnath said that after the declaration of results, there was an explosion-like incident in the locality which created panic among residents. She stated that the situation reflects growing instability in certain pockets of North 24 Parganas district and demanded immediate action from authorities.
According to her statement, the blast occurred in a residential area and was heard by local residents late in the evening. However, she did not provide detailed information about the nature of the explosion, casualties, or damage caused. Local administrative authorities have not yet issued a detailed confirmation regarding the incident.
Security forces were reportedly alerted after the claim, and police personnel were sent to the area to verify the situation and maintain law and order. Officials are expected to examine whether any crude explosives were used or if the incident was caused by other factors.
Meanwhile, opposition parties have reacted strongly to the allegation, demanding a thorough investigation. They have raised concerns over alleged law-and-order issues in the post-election phase and accused ruling party leaders of failing to ensure safety in sensitive regions.
On the other hand, local political workers from the ruling camp have dismissed attempts to link the incident with political violence, stating that the matter is under investigation and premature conclusions should be avoided until official findings are released.
Police sources have indicated that they are collecting evidence from the spot and speaking to local residents to understand what exactly happened. Forensic teams may also be called if any explosive material is suspected.
The incident has added to the already heated political atmosphere in West Bengal following the election outcome. While one side is calling for accountability and stronger security measures, others are urging restraint until verified reports emerge.
Authorities are expected to release an official statement once the preliminary investigation is completed. For now, the situation in Ward No. 14 remains under close watch as inquiries continue.
