Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently chaired a high-level meeting to review issues concerning the border areas of Tripura, with a special focus on security, border management, and infrastructure development along the India-Bangladesh frontier. The meeting was held during his visit to the Northeast and included senior officials from the Border Security Force (BSF), state administration, and central agencies.
According to official reports, Shah assessed the preparedness of security forces deployed along the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura and reviewed measures to curb illegal infiltration, cross-border crimes, and smuggling activities. He emphasized the need for stronger coordination among security agencies and local authorities to ensure effective border management.
The Home Minister also discussed the Centre’s broader strategy to strengthen border security through the upcoming “Smart Border Project.” The initiative aims to create an advanced security grid using drones, modern surveillance cameras, sensors, and other cutting-edge technologies to monitor vulnerable stretches of the international border.
During the review, attention was also given to the development of border villages and improving connectivity in remote areas. The government has been focusing on infrastructure upgrades, better road networks, and enhanced public services in border regions to improve the quality of life for residents while strengthening national security.
Shah reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining strict vigilance along international borders and stated that demographic changes caused by illegal influx would not be allowed. He stressed that modern technology and coordinated efforts would play a key role in securing the country’s borders in the coming years.
The meeting reflects the Centre’s continued focus on Tripura, a strategically important northeastern state that shares a long international border with Bangladesh. Officials believe that enhanced surveillance, stronger infrastructure, and close cooperation between the Centre and the state government will further strengthen security and promote development in the border areas.
