Bangladesh Police on Wednesday handed over the body of an Indian official to the Indian High Commission in Dhaka after completing post-mortem and legal formalities.
The deceased has been identified as Pavan Kumar Singh, an employee posted at the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh. He was reportedly found dead under mysterious circumstances inside his residence in Dhaka earlier this week.
Police officials said an investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of death. Preliminary findings reportedly did not indicate immediate signs of foul play, though forensic examination and further inquiry are still underway.
After the autopsy process was completed, Bangladeshi authorities formally transferred the body to officials of the Indian High Commission for further arrangements and transportation to India.
Diplomatic officials are also understood to be in contact with the family members of the deceased official. Authorities from both India and Bangladesh have urged people not to speculate until the investigation is completed.
The incident has drawn attention because of the sensitive nature of diplomatic postings and the close ties shared between the two neighbouring countries. India and Bangladesh continue to maintain strong cooperation on regional security, trade and diplomatic matters.
