Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb announced his resignation to Governor SN Arya on Saturday. The unexpected departure comes just months before state elections next year.

Biplab Deb was cited as saying, “The party wants me to try to strengthen the organisation.”


Following accusations of infighting inside the BJP’s state unit, the resignation was announced.


Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress, which has been fighting tooth and nail for votes in Tripura, was harsh in her condemnation of the outgoing Chief Minister.
