The BJP has called Himachal Pradesh’s robotic surgery project the state’s “biggest healthcare scandal,” accusing the Congress government of making tall claims while basic medical facilities remain weak.
BJP state chief spokesperson Rakesh Jamwal said the government promoted robotic surgery as a major achievement, but failed to provide enough trained doctors, technicians and support staff to run the advanced system properly. He said modern machines alone cannot improve healthcare without proper manpower and planning.
Jamwal also referred to the recent admission of Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Mahajan at IGMC Shimla, claiming that a hospital lift was not functioning at the time. He said if such problems happen in the state’s premier hospital, ordinary patients must be facing even greater hardship.
The BJP accused the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government of focusing more on publicity than performance. Jamwal demanded that the government fix hospital infrastructure, ensure essential services remain functional and appoint trained personnel before making big announcements on advanced healthcare.
The state government had earlier inaugurated robotic surgery facilities at major medical institutions, presenting them as part of its plan to modernise healthcare in Himachal Pradesh.
