At least three people were injured after a reported bomb explosion hit a rally of Bangladesh’s student-led National Citizen Party in Savar, near Dhaka, on Monday night.
The blast took place around 9:45 pm at the Savar Thana Stand Eidgah field while the rally was underway. According to the NCP, the explosion occurred during its post-march gathering and caused panic among supporters present at the venue.
The rally was part of the NCP’s nationwide “July March,” launched to press demands including a referendum, job creation, control of commodity prices, solution to the power crisis and stronger border protection.
Videos circulating on social media reportedly showed a flash and smoke rising from the crowd, forcing people to run from the spot. The full extent of the injuries has not yet been officially disclosed.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over political tension in Bangladesh, where student-led groups have continued to play a major role in anti-Hasina politics. Police are expected to investigate the source of the blast and identify those responsible.
