A major tragedy was averted in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar after a passenger bus caught fire while on the road, triggering panic among commuters. Thanks to the quick response of the driver and local authorities, all passengers were safely evacuated before the flames could engulf the entire vehicle.

According to officials, the incident occurred on a busy route in the Haridwar area when smoke was first noticed coming from the bus. Within minutes, flames erupted from the vehicle, forcing the driver to stop immediately and alert passengers. Eyewitnesses said panic spread briefly as passengers rushed to get off the bus, but the evacuation was completed swiftly and no casualties were reported.

Firefighters and local police rushed to the spot after receiving information about the blaze. Fire tenders worked to bring the flames under control and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby vehicles or roadside structures. By the time emergency teams arrived, a significant portion of the bus had already been damaged by the fire.

Officials said preliminary investigations indicate that a technical fault or short circuit may have triggered the incident, although the exact cause will be determined after a detailed inspection of the vehicle. Mechanical experts and transport department officials have been asked to examine the burnt bus and submit a report.

Passengers praised the bus driver for acting quickly after noticing signs of trouble. Several travelers said the driver's presence of mind helped avoid what could have turned into a serious disaster. Witnesses also appreciated the prompt response of emergency services, which ensured that the fire was contained quickly.

The incident has once again raised concerns about vehicle maintenance and safety checks in public transport. Transport experts have stressed the importance of regular inspections of electrical systems, engines, and fuel lines, particularly during the summer months when high temperatures can increase the risk of vehicle fires.

Authorities have assured that the incident will be thoroughly investigated and that appropriate action will be taken if any negligence is found. The transport department is also expected to review the maintenance records of the vehicle as part of the probe.

While the bus suffered extensive damage, the safe evacuation of all passengers prevented a loss of life. Officials have urged transport operators to ensure strict compliance with safety norms and emergency preparedness measures to avoid similar incidents in the future. The investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway.
