Congress workers staged a protest at Chennai Egmore railway station over the ongoing controversy surrounding alleged irregularities and paper leaks linked to the NEET examination, accusing the central government of failing to protect the integrity of competitive exams.
During the demonstration, party workers raised slogans against the Union government and claimed that there had been “89 instances of paper leaks” during the tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Protesters alleged that repeated examination leaks were affecting the future of students and creating widespread anxiety among aspirants across the country.
The agitation briefly created tension at the railway station as police personnel were deployed to maintain order and prevent disruption of public movement. Several protesters carried placards demanding stronger action against those involved in examination malpractices and called for greater transparency in the conduct of national-level entrance tests.
Congress leaders criticised the handling of the NEET examination system and accused the authorities of failing to ensure fair opportunities for students. The party also demanded accountability from agencies responsible for conducting competitive examinations.
The NEET controversy has triggered political debate in several states, particularly in Tamil Nadu, where opposition to the medical entrance examination has remained a major political issue for years. Many political parties and student organisations in the state have repeatedly argued that the exam disadvantages rural and economically weaker students.
The protest comes amid continuing nationwide discussions over examination security, transparency, and the need for reforms in the conduct of large-scale competitive tests. Authorities have not officially commented on the specific allegations raised during the protest, while security remained tightened around the protest site to avoid any untoward incident.
