Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Friday launched a sharp attack on opposition parties, claiming that both the Indian National Congress and the Samajwadi Party would “cease to exist” in the state after the 2027 Assembly elections.
Addressing party workers during a public programme in Uttar Pradesh, Maurya expressed confidence that the BJP would once again return to power with a massive mandate. He said the opposition parties were losing public trust and surviving only through “misleading politics” and caste-based narratives.
Maurya asserted that the BJP government under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had transformed the state through development projects, welfare schemes, improved law and order, and infrastructure expansion. According to him, people in Uttar Pradesh no longer believe in what he described as “dynastic politics” practiced by the Samajwadi Party and Congress.
The Deputy CM also targeted SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, claiming that the party’s PDA formula — referring to “Pichhda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak” — had failed to gain public confidence. Maurya alleged that the opposition was attempting to divide voters for political benefit, while the BJP was focused on governance and welfare.
He further claimed that the BJP would repeat its dominant 2017 performance in the 2027 Assembly elections and set a new benchmark by crossing 300 seats in the state. Maurya said the party remained united and strong under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The remarks have intensified the political battle ahead of the crucial 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, where the BJP is expected to face a strong challenge from the SP-Congress alliance. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the opposition INDIA bloc had performed strongly in Uttar Pradesh, significantly reducing the BJP-led NDA’s tally in the state.
Meanwhile, leaders from the Samajwadi Party hit back at Maurya’s statement, alleging that the BJP government was trying to divert attention from issues such as unemployment, inflation, and farmer distress. SP leaders have repeatedly claimed that the BJP would fail to retain power in 2027.
