Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) has stepped up health screening measures and issued a fresh Ebola-related health advisory for passengers arriving from or transiting through countries affected by the virus, amid renewed global concerns over outbreaks in parts of Africa.

According to airport health authorities, the advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure following alerts from global health agencies regarding increased Ebola activity in select African nations. The move aims to strengthen early detection and prevent any possible importation of the virus into India.

Under the updated guidelines, passengers arriving from high-risk countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan are being subjected to enhanced screening procedures, including thermal scanning and detailed health checks at arrival terminals. Travellers are also required to fill out self-declaration forms covering their recent travel history and possible exposure risks.

Authorities have instructed that any passenger showing symptoms such as fever, severe weakness, vomiting, or unexplained bleeding must immediately report to airport health officials for further medical evaluation and isolation if necessary. Dedicated health counters and monitoring teams have been deployed at international arrival areas for this purpose.

Officials clarified that while India has not reported any Ebola cases and the overall risk remains low, precautionary surveillance has been intensified in line with global public health advisories. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has also issued separate guidelines to strengthen coordination across airports and state health departments.

Health experts say such measures are part of standard international protocols whenever outbreaks occur in other regions, especially for high-risk infectious diseases like Ebola, which spreads through direct contact with infected bodily fluids.

Passengers have been advised not to panic but to cooperate with screening procedures and promptly disclose any relevant travel or health information.

With the latest advisory, Indian authorities aim to ensure that surveillance systems remain alert while maintaining smooth international travel operations at one of the country’s busiest aviation hubs.
