A Delhi court on Friday extended the judicial custody of Rahul Meena, the accused in the murder case of an IRS officer’s daughter, by another four days as police continue their investigation into the high-profile case.
Rahul Meena was produced before the court after his earlier custody period ended. During the hearing, investigators requested more time, stating that several aspects of the probe are still under examination, including digital evidence, forensic analysis, and technical reports linked to the case.
The court accepted the plea and directed that the accused remain in judicial custody for four additional days.
The murder case has attracted widespread attention after the young woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Delhi earlier this month. Police later arrested Rahul Meena, who was reportedly known to the victim. Officials suspect that personal issues may have played a role in the crime, though the exact motive has not yet been officially disclosed.
According to investigators, teams are currently analysing CCTV footage, mobile phone records, and electronic devices seized during the investigation. Forensic experts are also examining material evidence recovered from different locations connected to the case.
During the proceedings, the prosecution argued that the investigation was still at a sensitive stage and more time was needed to complete evidence collection and verification. The defence, however, opposed the extension and claimed that the accused has been cooperating with investigators.
After hearing both sides, the court observed that the probe was ongoing and allowed the request for extension of custody.
Police officials have not revealed many details publicly, citing the sensitive nature of the investigation. Sources familiar with the matter said investigators are trying to reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the murder.
Meanwhile, the victim’s family has demanded strict action against the accused and called for a fast-track trial. The incident has also reignited conversations around women’s safety and violent crimes linked to personal relationships.
Authorities are expected to place further findings before the court during the next hearing as the investigation continues.
