Normalcy returned to the national capital on Sunday as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) restored full operations across its network following the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) calling off its Jantar Mantar protest. All metro stations are now open for passengers, with both entry and exit gates functioning normally after several days of restrictions imposed due to heightened security around the protest site.
The restrictions, which affected key stations including Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Mandi House, Janpath, Patel Chowk, New Delhi, ITO and Supreme Court, had disrupted the daily commute of thousands of passengers. Initially, entry gates at several stations were reopened on Saturday evening following the resignation of former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. By Sunday morning, the DMRC confirmed that all stations across the network had resumed normal operations.
The reopening came after the CJP formally withdrew its agitation at Jantar Mantar following multiple rounds of talks with the Centre. Protest leaders said the decision was taken after receiving assurances from the government on key demands, including examination reforms and other issues raised during the nationwide student movement. The end of the protest also led to the removal of security barricades around central Delhi and the restoration of normal public movement.
During the peak of the agitation, authorities had temporarily shut or restricted access to several central Delhi metro stations as a precautionary measure. Security personnel were deployed in large numbers, and commuters faced delays and diversions while travelling through the city. With the protest now concluded, metro services have resumed without restrictions, bringing significant relief to lakhs of daily commuters.
Following the withdrawal of the protest, civic authorities also launched a cleanliness drive at Jantar Mantar and nearby areas to restore the site after weeks of demonstrations. While the protest has ended, political discussions over education reforms and examination transparency are expected to continue in Parliament, with the Centre preparing to introduce tougher anti-paper leak legislation in the Lok Sabha.
