Delhi Police carried out a major anti-crime drive named “Operation Shastra” in Rohini, leading to the arrest of 21 people and the detention of more than 500 suspects during a 48-hour crackdown. The operation was launched on May 28 to target criminals allegedly involved in armed robberies, snatching, and other street crimes.
According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Northern Range) Vijay Singh, around 150 to 200 police personnel were deployed in coordinated raids across the district. Teams from local police stations, the Special Task Force, and other special units participated in the operation.
During the crackdown, police recovered several illegal weapons and other items allegedly linked to criminal activities. Officials reported the seizure of 11 country-made pistols, 13 live cartridges, seven knives, two motorcycles, and multiple mobile phones. A total of 18 cases under the Arms Act were registered during the drive.
Police said several habitual offenders were among those arrested. Some of the accused were reportedly linked to robbery, theft, vehicle theft, and snatching cases. Authorities stated that the operation focused on individuals who frequently used weapons to intimidate people and commit crimes.
Apart from the arrests, police also took preventive action against people considered likely to disturb public order. More than 500 individuals were rounded up for verification and security checks, while dozens of vehicles were seized during the operation.
Officials described Operation Shastra as part of Delhi Police’s larger effort to reduce organised crime and improve public safety. Earlier phases of the operation had also targeted individuals displaying weapons on social media and allegedly using online platforms to create fear and promote criminal activities.
Delhi Police said similar operations will continue in the coming weeks to monitor repeat offenders, remove illegal weapons from circulation, and strengthen security across the national capital.
