Delhi Police on Thursday rejected social media claims that Jantar Mantar has been closed or locked for protests, calling the reports "entirely false, misleading and devoid of facts." Authorities clarified that the iconic protest site remains open and continues to function under existing guidelines for demonstrations.
The clarification came after several social media posts alleged that authorities had permanently shut down Jantar Mantar following recent protests. In its official statement, Delhi Police urged the public not to believe or circulate unverified information, stressing that no such decision has been taken.
Officials said that while security arrangements have been strengthened due to recent demonstrations and ongoing investigations into the July 20 protest, there has been no blanket ban on holding protests at Jantar Mantar. Police added that any gathering at the venue will continue to be regulated according to existing legal procedures and permissions.
The clarification comes amid heightened political attention over recent protests in the national capital and allegations regarding police action. Delhi Police reiterated that misinformation on social media can create unnecessary confusion and appealed to citizens to rely only on official sources for updates.
