Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on its strong victory in the Falta Assembly seat of West Bengal, describing the result as a triumph of democracy over intimidation.
The Falta seat witnessed a high-profile re-polling after reports of irregularities during the earlier phase of voting. Following the re-poll, BJP candidate Debangshu Panda secured a massive victory by a margin of over 1,09,000 votes, marking one of the party’s most decisive wins in the region.
Reacting to the result, PM Modi said that the people of Falta had spoken clearly through their mandate. In a post on social media, he stated, “Democracy has won, and intimidation has lost,” while also congratulating Panda and BJP workers for what he called a “record margin” victory.
He further added that the result reflects the growing trust of the people in the BJP’s governance approach and development agenda. Modi also praised party workers in West Bengal for their organisational efforts during the election and reiterated the party’s commitment to continue working for the state’s progress.
According to election officials, the re-polling in Falta recorded a high voter turnout of over 88 percent, indicating strong public participation despite earlier disruptions. The Election Commission had ordered re-polling after complaints of irregularities in the second phase of polling held earlier.
BJP leaders described the outcome as a turning point in West Bengal politics. Debangshu Panda, speaking after his win, called it a victory of the people and thanked voters for their support. He also noted that despite challenges during the election process, the final result reflected the will of the electorate.
The result has further strengthened the BJP’s position in the West Bengal Assembly, adding to its existing tally of seats. Party leaders say the win will boost their momentum in the state ahead of future political contests.
Meanwhile, opposition parties have yet to issue an extensive response to the outcome. However, the result is expected to intensify political discussions in the state over electoral conduct and ground-level campaigning strategies.
The Falta verdict is being widely seen as a significant political development in West Bengal’s evolving electoral landscape.
