Senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh on Tuesday rejected allegations linking his party to an alleged attack on Mitali Bag, claiming that the incident was being used by the Trinamool Congress to “create sympathy” ahead of elections.
Reacting to the controversy, Ghosh said the Bharatiya Janata Party had no involvement in the incident and accused the ruling party in West Bengal of politicising the issue for electoral gain. He alleged that such claims were part of a broader strategy to influence public perception and divert attention from governance issues.
The remarks came after TMC leaders accused BJP workers of being behind an attack on Mitali Bag, a Member of Parliament from the state. According to initial reports, the alleged incident took place during a political engagement, triggering sharp reactions from the TMC leadership, which condemned the attack and demanded strict action.
Ghosh, however, dismissed the allegations as “baseless” and said that the BJP does not support any form of violence. He further claimed that the ruling party has a history of blaming opposition parties to gain political mileage, especially during sensitive periods.
On the other hand, leaders from the Trinamool Congress maintained that the attack was a serious matter and accused BJP supporters of creating a climate of intimidation. They called for a thorough investigation and urged law enforcement agencies to identify those responsible.
The incident has once again intensified the political confrontation between the BJP and TMC in West Bengal, where allegations of violence during political activities are not uncommon. Both parties continue to trade charges, reflecting the heightened tensions in the state’s political landscape.
As the situation develops, authorities are expected to look into the matter to ascertain the facts, while political rhetoric from both sides continues to escalate.
