Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led Central government over the police action against student protesters in Delhi, questioning whether this was the “Ram Rajya” the government had promised. Referring to reports of students being beaten and women protesters allegedly being mishandled, she said, “Is this BJP's 'Ram Rajya' where students are beaten up and girls' clothes are torn?” Her remarks came amid escalating protests over the alleged NEET paper leak and the police crackdown on demonstrators.
Addressing reporters outside Parliament, Yadav alleged that the government's response to peaceful protesters reflected growing intolerance towards dissent. She claimed that instead of listening to the concerns of students demanding accountability over the examination controversy, the administration resorted to force. The Samajwadi Party leader said the treatment of young protesters had raised serious questions about the government's commitment to democratic values and citizens' rights.
The protests, led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and supported by several opposition parties, have centred on demands for accountability over the alleged NEET paper leak and action against those responsible. Demonstrators have also criticised the police response during the "Sansad Chalo" march, alleging excessive use of force, while authorities maintain that security measures were necessary to prevent law and order issues.
The remarks by Dimple Yadav add to a series of criticisms from opposition leaders, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and other INDIA bloc members, who have condemned the police action and demanded a detailed discussion in Parliament. The Opposition has accused the Centre of failing to protect students' interests and suppressing democratic protests.
The Centre has rejected the allegations, stating that law enforcement acted according to the situation on the ground and that investigations into the alleged NEET paper leak are continuing. The government has reiterated that strict action will be taken against those found responsible for any examination irregularities while urging opposition parties not to politicise the issue.
With protests continuing around Jantar Mantar and Parliament, the alleged NEET paper leak and the police response have become major flashpoints in the ongoing Monsoon Session. Both the government and the Opposition remain locked in a political confrontation, while students continue to seek assurances that the integrity of India's examination system will be protected.
