Nagpur: In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 522 kilograms of ganja valued at approximately ₹2.61 crore in Nagpur and arrested two individuals allegedly involved in the smuggling racket.
According to officials, the operation was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the transportation of a large consignment of narcotics through the region. DRI officers intercepted a vehicle and, during a thorough search, recovered the ganja concealed inside. The seized contraband was intended for illegal distribution in various markets.
The two accused were taken into custody and are being questioned to determine the source of the consignment, its intended destination, and whether a larger interstate drug trafficking network is involved. Preliminary investigations suggest that the consignment originated from another state and was being transported through central India for further distribution.
Officials said the seizure is one of the significant ganja hauls made in the region this year and highlights the continuing efforts of enforcement agencies to crack down on narcotics smuggling. The DRI has launched a detailed investigation to identify other members of the network and trace financial links connected to the operation.
A case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The arrested individuals are expected to be produced before a court for further legal proceedings.
The DRI reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and appealed to citizens to share information about suspicious activities related to narcotics to help law enforcement agencies curb the menace.
