At least eight people were killed in a tragic road accident in Ambedkar Nagar, after a speeding car rammed into a group of bystanders late Sunday night, police said.

The incident occurred near Ashrafpur Bhua village on the Jalalpur–Akbarpur road around 11:30 PM. According to officials, the tragedy unfolded in two stages. Initially, two motorcycles collided, leaving two riders seriously injured. As locals and passersby gathered at the spot to help the victims, a car travelling at high speed lost control and ploughed into the crowd.

The impact caused chaos and panic, with several people being thrown off the road. The injured were rushed to a nearby community health centre, where six people were declared dead on arrival. Two others, who were critically injured, were later referred to higher medical facilities but succumbed during treatment, taking the total death toll to eight.

Police have identified most of the deceased, while a couple of victims remain unidentified. Authorities confirmed that the driver of the car fled the scene immediately after the incident, and a manhunt is currently underway to trace and arrest the आरोपी.

Officials said a detailed investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances leading to the crash. Preliminary findings suggest overspeeding and possible negligence as key factors behind the incident.

The has once again raised serious concerns over road safety and reckless driving, especially in situations where crowds gather after accidents. Authorities have urged people to remain cautious and avoid crowding accident sites, as such secondary incidents often prove even more deadly.
