Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra on Tuesday cast her vote in Nadia district, describing the ongoing election as a “fight to save democracy” and urging citizens to participate in large numbers.
After casting her vote, Moitra told reporters that the democratic process must be protected and strengthened through active voter participation. She emphasized that elections are not just about choosing representatives but also about safeguarding constitutional values.
“This is a fight to save democracy,” she said, adding that voters must exercise their franchise without fear or influence.
Moitra also appealed to people to remain vigilant and ensure that their votes are cast freely and fairly. She expressed confidence in the democratic spirit of the electorate in West Bengal, saying that voters are aware of their rights and responsibilities.
The TMC leader, known for her outspoken political stance, has been active in campaigning across various constituencies in the state. Her remarks come amid a politically charged election atmosphere, with major parties trading allegations over issues such as voter intimidation, security arrangements, and administrative neutrality.
Polling in West Bengal is being conducted in multiple phases under tight security, with central forces deployed in sensitive areas to maintain law and order.
Officials said that voting in Nadia and surrounding constituencies is being closely monitored to ensure a peaceful and transparent process. Voter turnout figures are being tracked throughout the day as the election progresses.
Moitra’s statement adds to the ongoing political narrative in the state, where parties continue to frame the election as a crucial contest over governance and democratic values.
