Police in Gurugram have registered an FIR against 10 government employees, including several school teachers, for allegedly failing to perform duties related to the ongoing Census and survey work assigned by the administration.
According to officials, the accused employees were deployed for important government survey and data collection work linked to Census operations. However, authorities claimed that despite repeated instructions and notices, the employees either remained absent from duty or failed to complete the assigned responsibilities on time.
The complaint was reportedly filed by senior district officials after multiple warnings were ignored. Based on the complaint, Gurugram Police registered a case under sections related to negligence of duty and disobedience of orders issued by public authorities.
Officials said Census-related work is considered a crucial administrative responsibility, as the collected data helps the government plan welfare schemes, infrastructure projects, and public services. Any delay or negligence in the process can affect the accuracy of official records and policy implementation.
Among those named in the FIR are government school teachers who had been temporarily assigned survey responsibilities alongside their regular duties. Sources said the administration had conducted several review meetings before deciding to initiate legal action against the employees.
The incident has sparked discussion among government staff associations, with some employee representatives claiming that workers are already burdened with multiple non-teaching assignments, including election duty, surveys, and administrative work. However, district officials maintained that government employees are legally bound to perform duties assigned by the administration.
Police said further investigation is underway, and statements from the accused employees will be recorded in the coming days. No arrests had been reported till the latest updates.
