A fire broke out at a multi-storey building in the Greater Kailash-1 (GK-1) area of South Delhi on Tuesday, prompting a swift response from the Delhi Fire Services (DFS). According to officials, three fire tenders were rushed to the spot after an emergency call was received at around 11:33 am.
Initial information from the fire department indicates that the blaze originated in an air-conditioning unit located on the upper floors of the building. Firefighters immediately launched operations to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to other parts of the structure.
A DFS official said there were no immediate reports of people being trapped inside the building. Rescue and firefighting teams conducted checks while continuing efforts to bring the situation under control. Authorities have not reported any injuries or casualties so far.
The incident comes just days after another fire-related emergency in Greater Kailash-I, where a blaze broke out in the battery room of an office building housing a Tata Communications facility. That fire required the deployment of 11 fire tenders and resulted in injuries to two firefighters.
Officials are yet to determine the exact cause of the latest fire. Cooling operations and inspections are expected to continue even after the flames are extinguished to ensure there is no risk of reignition. Investigators will examine the affected air-conditioning unit and surrounding electrical systems as part of the probe.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over fire safety in commercial and residential buildings across the national capital, particularly following several major fire incidents reported in Delhi in recent weeks. Authorities have urged building owners and occupants to ensure that electrical equipment, air-conditioning systems and fire-safety mechanisms are regularly inspected and maintained.
Further details are awaited as firefighting operations continue and officials assess the extent of the damage.
