Five members of a family, including four children, were killed after their mud house collapsed during heavy rainfall in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district late Sunday night. The tragic incident took place in Habibpur Siri village under the Phugana police station area, where continuous rain weakened the structure before it caved in.
According to officials, the deceased were identified as Islamuddin, a daily wage labourer, his children Ruksar (12), Alsifa (7), Ahad Ahmed (3), and another family member, Zeeshan Ahmed. Two girls from the family sustained injuries and were rescued from the debris before being shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Local residents alerted authorities, following which police and rescue teams rushed to the spot and carried out relief operations using heavy machinery.
Uttar Pradesh Minister Kapil Dev Agarwal expressed grief over the incident and said the district administration had been directed to provide all possible assistance to the bereaved family. He also assured that compensation would be extended to the victims' next of kin in accordance with government norms.
The incident comes amid heavy monsoon showers across several parts of Uttar Pradesh, where rain-related accidents, including house collapses, have been reported in recent days. Authorities have urged residents living in weak or damaged structures to move to safer places as heavy rainfall is expected to continue in parts of the state.
