In a major crackdown on organized crime, Haryana Police arrested four alleged members of an interstate criminal gang following a brief encounter in Palwal district. Police officials said the accused were apprehended after an exchange of fire during a special operation carried out on the basis of intelligence inputs.
According to investigators, the suspects were active across multiple states and were wanted in connection with several criminal cases, including robbery, extortion, and illegal arms trafficking. Acting on a tip-off about their movement in the Palwal area, a police team launched an operation to intercept the gang members.
When police attempted to stop the suspects, the accused allegedly opened fire in an attempt to escape. Security personnel retaliated, leading to a brief encounter. The suspects were eventually overpowered and taken into custody. No police personnel suffered serious injuries during the operation.
During the search, officers recovered a cache of illegal weapons and ammunition from the accused. The seizure reportedly included country-made pistols, cartridges, and other materials suspected to have been used in criminal activities. Police believe the weapons were intended for use in future crimes and are now examining their origin and supply network.
Officials stated that the arrested individuals are part of an interstate gang that had been under surveillance for some time. Preliminary investigations suggest the group maintained links with criminal networks operating in Haryana and neighboring states. Authorities are now questioning the accused to gather information about other gang members and their alleged involvement in recent crimes.
Senior police officers described the arrests as a significant achievement in efforts to curb organized crime in the region. Cases under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act have been registered against the accused.
Further investigation is underway to determine the full extent of the gang’s activities, trace the source of the seized weapons, and identify additional associates connected to the network. Police officials said more arrests could follow as the probe progresses.
