New Delhi: In a major crackdown on organised crime, Delhi Police have arrested a member of the notorious Gogi Gang in East District with a loaded pistol, officials said on Thursday.
According to police, the accused was intercepted during a targeted operation based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of armed criminals in the area. During search and frisking, a loaded firearm was recovered from his possession along with live ammunition.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused was actively involved in criminal activities linked to the gang, which has been associated with several serious offences including extortion, contract killings, and armed intimidation in the national capital and adjoining regions.
Police officials said the arrest is part of an ongoing drive to dismantle organised criminal networks operating in Delhi. Teams have been tracking gang members who are believed to be attempting to regroup and expand their influence through local associates.
The accused is currently being interrogated to identify his role in recent criminal incidents and to trace the supply chain of illegal arms. Investigators are also probing possible links with other gang members who may be operating from outside Delhi.
A senior police officer said that the recovery of a loaded weapon indicates that the suspect was prepared for immediate use, raising concerns about potential planned criminal activity. Further legal action has been initiated under relevant sections of the Arms Act and criminal law provisions.
Police have intensified surveillance in East Delhi and nearby areas, with special teams deployed to monitor gang-related movements. Authorities have also appealed to citizens to report suspicious activities to help prevent organised crime incidents.
The Gogi Gang, named after its slain leader, has remained under police scanner for years, with multiple members arrested or killed in inter-gang rivalries and police encounters. Despite sustained action, some factions are still believed to be active in parts of Delhi-NCR.
Officials said the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are likely as they work to uncover the wider network and operational links of the accused.
