In a heartwarming display of civic responsibility, a newly married couple in Kanchipuram participated in the ongoing 2026 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election by casting their votes immediately after their wedding ceremony.

The groom, dressed in traditional wedding attire, arrived at the polling booth along with his bride shortly after completing their marriage rituals. The couple drew attention from voters and officials alike, as they balanced one of the most important personal milestones of their lives with their democratic duty. Their presence at the polling station symbolized a strong commitment to participating in the electoral process despite a busy and significant day.

According to reports, the couple prioritised voting as an essential responsibility before continuing with their wedding celebrations. The bride, adorned with traditional jewellery and mehendi, and the groom, still in ceremonial dress, were seen patiently waiting in line along with other voters. Election officials and locals appreciated the gesture, calling it an inspiring example for young voters across the state.

Such instances were not isolated during the polls. Across Tamil Nadu, several voters were seen making extra efforts to exercise their franchise. In a similar case reported from another district, a bride cast her vote soon after her wedding and then travelled with her groom so that he could also vote, highlighting the importance many citizens placed on participating in the democratic process.

The 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, being held for all 234 constituencies, have witnessed steady voter turnout since the morning, with enthusiastic participation from various sections of society. Authorities have made elaborate arrangements to ensure smooth polling, including security deployment and voter assistance measures.

The story from Kanchipuram has since gone viral on social media, with many praising the couple for setting an example. Political leaders and election officials have repeatedly urged citizens to vote, emphasizing that every vote plays a crucial role in shaping governance.

As polling continues across the state, such moments underline the spirit of democracy, where personal celebrations and public responsibility go hand in hand. The couple’s act serves as a reminder that even on life’s busiest days, participating in the electoral process remains a priority for many citizens.
