The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heatwave conditions across several parts of Uttar Pradesh over the next seven days, prompting the Prayagraj district administration to issue precautionary guidelines for residents.
According to weather officials, temperatures are expected to remain significantly above normal in many districts, with dry winds and intense daytime heat likely to continue throughout the week. Prayagraj, Kanpur, Varanasi, Jhansi and nearby regions are among the areas expected to witness severe heat conditions.
The Prayagraj administration has advised people to avoid unnecessary movement outdoors during afternoon hours, especially between 12 pm and 4 pm, when temperatures are likely to peak. Citizens have been urged to stay hydrated, wear light cotton clothes and avoid direct exposure to sunlight for long periods.
Officials also asked schools, construction agencies and employers to take special precautions for children, outdoor workers and elderly people, who are considered most vulnerable during heatwave conditions. Health departments and emergency services have been directed to remain alert in case of heatstroke-related emergencies.
Doctors warned that prolonged exposure to extreme heat can lead to dehydration, dizziness, exhaustion and heatstroke. Residents have been advised to immediately seek medical help if symptoms such as high fever, fainting or breathing difficulties occur.
The IMD said there is currently no significant rainfall activity expected in most parts of Uttar Pradesh over the coming days, which could further intensify heat conditions. Authorities are also monitoring electricity and water supply systems to manage increased demand during the hot weather spell.
Several northern and central Indian states have already been experiencing rising temperatures over the past week, with weather experts linking the conditions to persistent dry weather patterns and delayed pre-monsoon activity.
