Jaipur, June 8: The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) on Monday launched a major demolition drive targeting illegal constructions and encroachments in the city as part of an ongoing road-widening and urban development initiative. Officials said around 10 to 12 unauthorized structures were being removed during the operation, which was carried out under heavy police security.
According to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Saroj Dhayal, the demolition drive focused on structures that were allegedly encroaching on a sector road in Jaipur’s Jagatpura area. Authorities reported that the operation was proceeding peacefully, with no significant resistance from local residents or affected parties.
To prevent the spread of rumors and maintain public order during the sensitive operation, the district administration temporarily suspended internet services in parts of Jaipur. Officials said the precautionary measure was taken to avoid misinformation on social media and ensure that the demolition process remained peaceful.
The primary objective of the drive is to widen the road running alongside the railway line from the Nandpuri Underpass in Jagatpura to an 80-foot-wide corridor, improving traffic flow and public infrastructure. Authorities stated that several structures standing within the designated right-of-way were obstructing the project and had to be removed.
Officials also confirmed that some religious structures were among those being removed after notices and deadlines had reportedly been issued earlier. The administration said adequate time had been provided for voluntary compliance before initiating demolition proceedings.
Deputy Inspector General of the JDA Vigilance Branch, Anand Sharma, noted that a previous enforcement drive conducted on May 22 had already cleared more than 130 encroachments along the same route. The latest operation is part of a broader effort to reclaim public land and complete planned infrastructure projects in the city.
A large deployment of police personnel and administrative officials remained present throughout the operation to maintain law and order. Authorities praised local residents for their cooperation and reiterated that the action was being taken in accordance with urban planning regulations and development requirements.
The JDA has stated that similar drives may continue in other parts of Jaipur where illegal constructions and encroachments are found to be obstructing public infrastructure and development projects.
