Jharkhand Students Hold Fresh Talks with Govt.

Ranchi: Amid the ongoing student agitation over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations, an eight-member delegation of protesters met government representatives at the State Guest House in Ranchi on Saturday.

The meeting was part of the Jharkhand government’s latest effort to engage with protesting students and find a way forward after the agitation entered its 15th day. The delegation presented its concerns and demands before government officials, with the recruitment process conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) at the centre of the dispute.

The protesters have been demanding greater transparency in the recruitment system and action over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations. One of their key demands is the cancellation of the 14th JPSC Civil Services Examination and an independent probe into the allegations.

The students have also sought wider reforms in the functioning of the JPSC and JSSC. They have called for an investigation by an independent agency, including the CBI, or by a panel of retired High Court judges from outside Jharkhand.

The latest meeting comes after earlier attempts by the government to engage with another group of protesters. The existence of different groups within the agitation has made negotiations more complicated, with the administration now reaching out separately to different factions.

The protest has continued despite the government’s efforts at dialogue. Several student leaders have also resorted to hunger strikes, raising concerns about their health as the agitation stretches into its third week.

The government has maintained that it is willing to hear the students’ concerns and examine their demands. Ministers have previously indicated that the administration is sensitive to the grievances of job aspirants and that the issues raised would be communicated to Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

The students, however, have insisted that assurances alone will not be enough and are seeking concrete action on their demands. The latest talks at the State Guest House could therefore prove important in determining whether the prolonged agitation can be brought to an end. The outcome of the discussions and any commitments made by the government are expected to influence the protesters’ next course of action.

With the recruitment examination issue continuing to generate political and public attention in Jharkhand, all eyes are now on whether the latest round of dialogue can help break the deadlock between the government and the protesting students.
