The Karnataka Cabinet on Thursday approved a series of major development projects covering education, healthcare, infrastructure, irrigation, transport and industrial development during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Bengaluru. The decisions are aimed at strengthening public services and boosting economic growth across the state.
One of the key decisions taken by the Cabinet was the approval of a residential coaching programme for students from backward communities. The state government sanctioned around ₹15 crore for the initiative, which is expected to help students prepare for competitive examinations and improve access to higher education opportunities.
In the healthcare sector, the Cabinet cleared several large-scale projects to improve medical infrastructure in different districts. This includes approval for a super-speciality hospital in Karwar at an estimated cost of ₹100 crore. New hospitals and medical facilities were also approved for Yadgir and Raichur districts to strengthen healthcare services in northern Karnataka.
The Cabinet also approved major reforms in higher education, including an advance procurement plan worth about ₹802 crore. Officials said the investment would support modernisation of educational institutions, digital learning systems and infrastructure upgrades in colleges and universities across Karnataka.
Apart from education and healthcare, the government cleared multiple infrastructure and irrigation projects aimed at improving connectivity and water supply systems. Discussions were also held on transport reforms and industrial expansion to attract new investments and create employment opportunities in different parts of the state.
The Karnataka government has been focusing heavily on industrial growth and public infrastructure in recent months. Earlier this year, the state approved industrial investment proposals worth more than ₹4,800 crore across several districts, with expectations of generating thousands of jobs.
Speaking after the Cabinet meeting, ministers said the newly approved projects are expected to improve public welfare, create employment opportunities and strengthen Karnataka’s position as one of India’s leading states in technology, education and healthcare development.
