Bengaluru: Amid growing speculation over a possible leadership change in Karnataka, several state ministers visited Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s residence in Bengaluru on Thursday for a “breakfast meeting,” triggering fresh political discussions within the ruling Congress.
The informal meeting comes at a time when reports of internal differences and leadership transition talks within the Karnataka Congress unit have gained momentum. According to political sources, the gathering was aimed at reviewing the current political situation, maintaining unity within the party, and addressing ongoing administrative matters.
Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar has also been at the centre of recent speculation regarding a possible change in leadership, though the party has repeatedly maintained that there is no immediate decision on replacing the Chief Minister.
The breakfast meeting is being seen as an attempt by senior leaders to project stability and counter growing media narratives suggesting a rift between factions within the Karnataka Congress. Ministers reportedly discussed governance priorities, upcoming policy decisions, and coordination between departments.
Political observers note that Karnataka has been witnessing periodic buzz over a “power-sharing formula” since the Congress formed the government, though no official confirmation of such an arrangement has ever been made publicly by the party leadership. The latest meeting is expected to temporarily ease tensions but may not fully end speculation.
Sources also suggest that the Congress high command is closely monitoring the situation and may intervene if internal disagreements escalate. However, party leaders in Karnataka continue to insist that the government remains stable and focused on development work.
Speaking to reporters earlier, some ministers downplayed the significance of the meeting, calling it a routine interaction between the Chief Minister and cabinet colleagues. They emphasized that such informal discussions are common and should not be linked to leadership change rumours.
Opposition parties, however, have seized on the developments, claiming that the ruling party is facing internal instability. They argue that the ongoing speculation reflects confusion within the Congress government, while ruling party leaders insist it is routine political chatter.
As the situation develops, attention remains on Bengaluru’s political corridors, where further meetings and possible statements from senior Congress leaders are expected in the coming days.
